Hello everybody,

We, Ms Amy, Ms Sri & Ms Salima & Ms Hajer, are very pleased and excited to have had a great start with a delightful group of students and a refreshing set of ‘start of the year’ activities. Have a look at Week 1 photos

What we did in Week 1:

  • Getting to know each other and team building activities were our major focus this week.Students learnt to ask questions, be good listeners and interact with each other.
  • Establishing Routines: We have established some routines that students are expected to follow at the start of the day, during transition, during class and at the end of the day.
  • First Day Jitters: Students expressed their first day feelings by drawing emojis and by doing a write-up about how we felt on the first day of school.
  • Essential Agreement: We are coming up with our essential agreement, establishing a class culture base on kindness and motivation for learning,
  • Math Number knowledge and Basic facts pre-assessment

What we plan to do in Week 2:

  • Complete the Essential Agreement
  • Complete the Emoji project and use rubrics to self-assess.
  • Math – Problem-solving skill: Looking for patterns, modelling and representing numbers up to 1,000’s
  • WIDA assessments
  • Begin to post samples of students’ work on Seesaw.

How can you help:

  • Please send a reusable water bottle, healthy snacks and lunch, sun hat/cap, pencil case everyday.
  • Please fill out the survey we sent earlier this morning.
  • Speak with your student using English.  Ask them what they did during the day or what they are learning about.  Use open-ended questions.  Sometimes you might need to draw the information out.  Using the link to look through the weekly pictures might help.  Incorporating this into your daily routine would have positive benefits.
