Dear Primary Families,

A quick online search shows that the average rainfall for Sohar in April is 5.3 mm and for May, 0.9 mm. I do not know the exact figures for this April or what will happen for the rest of May, but I will say that based on conversations with Omani colleagues it does seem like this has been a particularly unusual spell of weather. I left England many years ago to get away from the bad weather and my friends at home keep telling me they thought I lived in a desert!

Thank you for your support and understanding as we have once again had to provide work to be accessed from home. One of our important Approaches to Learning (ATLs) skills is self-management, and these opportunities to work independently provide another opportunity to apply these important life skills. Please share feedback to your child’s teachers about the online experience so that we may work together to ensure that we are as successful as possible at meeting each child’s needs in these challenging circumstances.

Grade 3 – Grade 6 Assembly

We will reschedule the assembly planned for today and will confirm the date as soon as the decision has been made. I know the classes had been working hard to be ready to share their learning today and we can look forward to celebrating this together as soon as possible.

Talent Show (Thursday, 9th May – 12:10 – 1:00 pm)

Next week we will have our ABIS Talent Show and we are excited to see what amazing talents our students – and maybe some teachers! – will share. It is sure to be a wonderful occasion and we thank Mr. Peter and Ms. Lloyd for all their efforts as they help the performers prepare!

Parent Coffee Morning (Tuesday, 30th April)

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those parents who were able to join last Tuesday’s coffee morning. It was lovely to meet again after what has felt like a very long break due to Ramadan and the various holidays and school interruptions. One topic of conversation was parent communication and the platforms that are used in the primary classes. A take-away for me was that we do have some inconsistencies with regards to how SeeSaw is used, for example, and I will work with the primary team to further develop our policy and practice in this area. SeeSaw is a wonderful platform and really does give parents a window into our classrooms and your child’s learning.

We plan to hold one final coffee morning before the end of the year – I cannot believe how quickly that is approaching! – and will share the date once confirmed.

Thank you for your continued support. I wish you a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Matthew

Primary Team Lead
