Parents, thank you so much! All students have now paid for our trip to Muscat and the information about the trip and what needs to be packed has been shared with you! We are very excited!
You will have been informed that Grade 5 students will start swimming this coming Sunday, 5 February 2023. Their swim schedule will be as follows:
- Sunday – Girls
- Tuesday – Boys
Students will also be preparing for our inter-house swim gala this term – more information will be shared at a later stage. Grade 5 students are expected to bring the following items for their swim lesson:
- Appropriate swimwear for girls and boys
- Swim goggles
- Swim cap
- Towel
- Flip flops (or sandals)
- Wet bag
- Hoodie or sweater to wear after changing into their dry clothes (optional).
All students are encouraged to participate in the swim lessons, as it is a life-saving skill. Although the weather is still a bit cool in the morning, we will minimize the time between getting out of the pool and changing into dry clothes.
Band practise is well underway with Ms Lloyd, students have the responsibility to be practising at home on their instruments AND to remember to bring them in on band days. Please can you assist them in remembering this!
Another epic week of learning in Grade 5! We also had some visitors joining us from Grade 6. Students have now chosen their area of interest in Space and created their thesis statements to share their opinion of why (or why not) money should be spent on further exploration. They are researching hard to back up their ideas with evidence and explanations.
This week we were learning about the scale of our Solar System by using a scale of 1 footstep:50,000,000 km, students chose something outdoors to represent the sun, then photographed how far away each planet in the Milky Way was away from the sun. They then had to present their photographs in a visual using the scale measurements of each.
In maths we have been continuing to look at division and showing how to estimate the quotient, solve using long division and prove by using the standard algorithm. Our brains are growing so much, we may need space helmets to keep them in! Have a great weekend! Best wishes from the Grade 5 Teaching Team.
