We began our new UOI this week so the students have been learning all about how exploration has led to new discoveries and new understandings.  We began this unit with a quiz to find out how much the students knew about exploration.  They knew quite a bit! We’ve been reading about different explorers and discussing their reasons for traveling to distant places. We’ve discovered that their reasons usually involve trade!

In Math the students have been developing their number skills and learning how to divide with remainders.  Word problems have also been a focus. We’ve also continued to practice these skills through playing math games with the Grade 3 students.

For writing I asked the students to write a recount of Oman Week. It’s been great fun remembering some of the activities.

Every morning we start our day with exercise. This helps us to settle into class and wake up our brain! This morning we decided to go around the playground then finish off with a game of Indian Tag. This is a game that requires strategic thinking and cooperative skills.

Today is Mother Tongue day and the students have been busy sharing stories from their countries in both their mother tongue and English.

So as you can see this week has been very busy!
