Hello everyone,

Happy 51st Omani National Day!

What a busy week of learning in Grade 5.

In Art we have been using 3 workshops to explore the concept of movement to connect with our Unit of Inquiry on Forces. Group 1 used paint pendulums to create abstract pattern art, Group 2 explored making movement using finger painting and Group 3 used chalk art to show the illusion of movement. Groups will rotate to complete all 3 art task over the next 3 weeks.

In Mathematics we have been unpacking strategies for more complex multiplications for example, grid method, partitioning and traditional long and short multiplication. Students are enjoying being able to master each skill and then have the flexibility to choose which strategy suits them the best.

In Language we have been “Word Wizards” exploring ways to work out what difficult words mean, using dictionaries, thesaurus and the context of the texts and how this helps us write better instructions.

In Unit we have been exploring all the different types of forces and how they can be balanced and unbalanced. Much fun was had flipping the classroom and working with new groups of friends. We have also been working on games to build team work skills.

We ended the week with a fantastic celebration of Omani National Day. A huge thank you to the families who sent in food and drink treats, which the children and teachers throughly enjoyed and to a small group of girls who spent all week making surprise gift bags for every member of G5.

Have a great weekend
