After having trouble estimating the weight of our new iPads and being unsure which unit to measure in, we have been learning about grams and kilograms. We had to admit our first estimates were pretty crazy.

We learned to find the weight recorded on grocery items. Then we were able to use these as a reference to estimate the weight of items that did not have the weight written on them.

After this we were able to apply some knowledge to make a more reasonable estimate about the weight of our iPads.

When we weighed an iPad we found some of our estimates were very close.

We began to wonder about the weight of all sorts of objects. Rawnaq wanted to know the weight of a particular book. She compared it to the weight of another book that she knew was almost 100 grams, and then two books. This helped her to estimate the weight of the particular book was around 200g. She was very pleased with her estimate when she weighed the book in question.

We were astonished to discover that the weight of some sacks of rice is heavier than most of us. It has been fun exploring the weight of items around us.
