For our first Unit in Reading we are learning about:
GOING ON ADVENTURES IN BOOKS!!!!!!
The skills we are focusing on are:
-holding the book correctly
-turning the pages appropriately
-looking at the pictures and telling the story
This is a precious time for students. It’s a time when we cozy up to reading together while we build up students’ confidence and desire for reading on their own.
When your child comes home with a library book, please take the time to listen to him/her tell the story. Ask questions about the pictures, etc. make sure this is a fun time. You can also read the story to them. Don’t focus on reading the words, this will come later when they are ready. Now, we just want them to enjoy the books.
