Dear Parents

I would like to welcome you all to the new school year. My name is Liezel Boshoff
and this is my 5th year at ABIS. I am from South Africa and have been in Oman for the past 6 years. I am looking forward to spending some exciting and rewarding time working with your child. These first few weeks we will be busy getting to know each other and establishing classroom routines and expectations. You can expect activities introducing elements of the IB Primary Years Program and how these components will be woven throughout our classroom. I just want to let you know of a few formalities:

Clothing:
Each student must bring a hat (clearly marked on the inside) on the first day so that it can be kept at school. No “crocs” are allowed and no shoes with heels. Flip flops can be put in with swimming gear for PE. All shoes need to be well fitted with a back strap and slip free to wear inside the class and in the gym. The small students don’t need to wear school uniform, but need to wear clothing with the appropriate colours of the school (blue, white and Khaki ). No jeans are allowed.

Snack and lunch packs:
At ABIS we promote healthy eating and do not permit any candy or fizzy drinks, however we do allow biscuits. Please note that we have a nut free policy so please no nuts, peanut butter or Nutella as there are students with serious allergies. All food sent to school should be prepared at home and lunch boxes should be clearly marked for easy identification. No food can be heated during school hours. A filled water bottle is a requirement for all the students every day.

Other
The school hours are from 8:15 until 3:15. Please make sure your child is in class anytime from 8:00 until 8:15 so that we can start promptly at 8:15. Until 28 September 2013, the K3 students will finish at 12:55 every day. The reason is to gradually prepare them for the long school days. After 28 September they will finish at 3:15.

I am looking forward to working with you this year to help make K3 an unforgettable experience for your child.

Kind Regards
Ms Liezel
