Dear Primary Families,

It has been a four-day week this week, as Thursday will be a staff Professional Development Day, and it has been a memorable one.

Grade 6 PYP Exhibition
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly Tuesday’s Grade 6 PYP Exhibition. This event marked the culmination of ten weeks of inquiry, during which students explored topics of personal interest in depth and with increasing independence. Guided by Mr. Matthew and Ms. Zahra, students embarked on learning journeys that emphasised curiosity, research, reflection, and action.

Tuesday gave the entire ABIS community the opportunity to celebrate not just final products, but the whole process of learning. The PYP Exhibition is a powerful opportunity for students to apply the Approaches to Learning skills and Learner Profile attributes they have been developing throughout their time in the PYP, and this was clearly evident throughout the day.

I was extremely proud of the confidence and enthusiasm with which students presented their learning. Their research led to both depth and breadth of understanding, and the wide range of inquiry topics was impressive — from cheese, sensors, surfing, trees, jewellery, heart function, nail art, and graffiti, to many more. The level of student agency and voice on display was a real credit to the Grade 6 team.

A huge thank you goes to Mr. Matthew, Ms. Zahra, and Ms. Meerah for their dedication and guidance throughout the process. Thank you also to Ms. Sanaa for supporting the art elements, Mr. Mino and Mr. Camilo for the wonderful musical finale, and Ms. Mary Ann, our PYP Coordinator, for her ongoing guidance and support.

Looking Ahead – Ramadan
Looking ahead to next week, we will begin the Holy Month of Ramadan. During this time, school hours will be adjusted, with students finishing at 1:00 pm each day, and we will operate a revised timetable. Homeroom teachers will share further details with families.

Information about our Ramadan ASA programme will be shared next week. ASAs will run from 1:00–2:00 pm on the usual ASA days (Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday). If the first day of Ramadan falls on a Wednesday, there will be no ASAs on that day, and the first day of the Ramadan ASA programme will be Sunday, 22nd.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Best regards,
Matthew
