Dear parents,

This week has been a vibrant and meaningful one as we celebrated Oman Week across our school community, recognising the culture, history, and traditions of our host nation. Students engaged in learning both on campus and through a range of trips that took place at different points in the year.

On campus, we began with a whole-school assembly featuring traditional dance performances by a local school. Students later heard from archaeologists currently working at Sohar Fort, whose presentation on Oman’s history prompted thoughtful questions from students across Grades 2–12. We concluded the week with a cultural assembly, and it was wonderful to see our international students proudly wearing their national colours ahead of this evening’s celebrations.

A number of year groups also benefited from rich learning experiences beyond the classroom. Grade 4 students enjoyed an overnight experience in Mussanah, developing independence and collaboration skills. Grade 5 students travelled to Muscat, visiting key cultural and national landmarks, while our Grade 9 students spent time in Wadi Hoquain, Nizwa, and Muscat. Across all trips, staff feedback highlighted students’ positive behaviour, engagement, and the way they represented the school with maturity and respect.

I am also delighted to recognise our students’ achievements in the Qur’an Memorization Competition, held in North Al Batinah – Sohar, with participation from approximately 125 schools. We congratulate Rand Al Saeedi (Grade 6) on achieving third place, and Mohammed Al Rahili, who earned tenth place at the Sohar level in the third memorization category. Mohammed Haitham (Grade 2) achieved 13th place, and Yousef (Grade 3) secured 7th place in their first participation. These results reflect outstanding dedication and commitment. My sincere thanks go to Ms. Sahar Ibrahim for her exceptional support of our students, and to our parents for their continued partnership.

This evening, we warmly welcome the entire ABIS community to our International Food Evening, running from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm, with a wide range of food, activities, and opportunities to come together.

Looking ahead, Grade 10–12 students have been introduced to a final major trip opportunity for April, and families are reminded that the Grade 6 MYP Parent Information Evening will take place on 17 February from 4:30–5:30 pm as part of our transition planning.

Finally, a reminder that school will be closed to students next Thursday for a staff professional development day.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing many of you this evening.

Dominic Robeau
