Dear Primary Families,
It has been wonderful to welcome our students and families back to school this week after the winter break. The campus has been full of energy and excitement, and it has been lovely to hear children share stories of the many ways they spent their holidays — whether staying close to Sohar or travelling further afield.
I also enjoyed a great break myself. I travelled back to England and had a fantastic time reconnecting with my children, Jacob and Annabel, as well as my family and brothers. I even managed a trip to London for a theatre show — a real treat! The one part I was less enthusiastic about was scraping ice off the car in the mornings, so I am very happy to be back in Oman with warmer weather and a busy term ahead!
Semester 1 Reports
Today, students will be bringing home their Semester 1 reports. These reports are important documents that provide a picture of your child’s learning so far. Please take time to read them together — celebrate the successes highlighted, and also note the suggested next steps for continued growth. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress further, Parent–Teacher Conferences next week may provide a good opportunity.
Parent–Teacher Conferences
Next week, Parent–Teacher Conferences will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday (20th and 21st January) from 3:30–6:30 pm. Sign-up sheets have already been shared. If you feel a further conversation would be helpful, please do book a time with your child’s homeroom or specialist teachers.
Parent Coffee Morning
On Tuesday morning (8:00–9:30 am), parents are warmly invited to join Mr. Cooper and me for a Parent Coffee Morning. This will be an informal opportunity to connect with one another and look ahead at what is coming up this term.
KG1–Grade 1 Assembly
On Thursday next week, our KG1–Grade 1 students will host an assembly from 12:20–1:00 pm. Parents are warmly welcome to attend and enjoy the children’s sharing of learning.
Looking Ahead
We have a busy and exciting few weeks ahead. Our IB Evaluation visit is approaching, and further details will be shared shortly. We are also beginning preparations for Oman Week (1st–5th February), which will conclude with our much-loved International Food Evening on Thursday, 5th February — one of my personal favourite community events! Thank you to the families involved in planning and supporting this celebration of culture and community.
During that same week, I will be joining Grades 4 and 5 on their overnight trips to Mussanah and Muscat, and I look forward to the learning, adventure, and memories that await.
As this first week back comes to a close, I wish everyone an enjoyable long weekend. I look forward to seeing all our students and families back on Monday, 19th January.
Best regards,
Matthew
Primary Team Lead
