We hope you all enjoyed a lovely week off with your families. It has been great to get back into the swing of things in Grade 5!
We began the week preparing for our three-way conferences, and it was a real pleasure to meet with so many of you in person. Thank you for taking the time to share in your child’s learning journey and discuss their highlights so far, as well as the goals they hope to continue working toward throughout the academic year.
This week also marked the start of our new reading groups, which will now take place three times each week. These sessions focus on guided reading, spelling, and comprehension to help students continue developing their reading fluency and understanding.
In our Unit of Inquiry, we have started exploring the scientific method and building our understanding of the laws of motion and simple machines through hands-on investigations and discussion. We also introduced a new form of writing, procedural or instructional texts, which will support students in explaining processes clearly and logically.

Looking ahead, next week we will continue delving further into these areas. In maths, our focus will move to measurement, connecting mathematical concepts to real-life investigations in our science work.
Best wishes,
Mr. G & Miss Megan
