Dear Parents,

Writing stories helps children use their imagination, practice new words, and learn how to organize ideas into sentences and paragraphs. A fun way to encourage writing at home is by using Story Starters.

👉 How to do it:

  • Give your child the beginning of a story (one or two sentences).

  • Ask them to continue the story in their own words.

  • Remind them: their story can be silly, funny, or magical — creativity is encouraged!

  • Afterwards, let your child read their story aloud to you.

✨ Examples of Story Starters:

  • “One morning, I woke up and found a spaceship in my garden…”

  • “The dragon knocked on my door and asked for help…”

  • “Suddenly, the lights went out, and I heard a noise behind me…”

💡 Family Tip: Make this a weekly routine — try one story starter every weekend. Parents and siblings can write their own versions too, then share together. Children love to see that everyone can be a storyteller.

🌍 Important Note: If your child wants to plan the story or discuss ideas in your native language first, that’s wonderful! Thinking, organizing, and planning in any language builds strong writing skills that transfer into English.

Happy Writing!
