Dear Primary Families,

This week I’d like to share two important areas of focus in our Primary School.

Classroom Visits and Professional Growth
As part of my role, I spend time regularly in classrooms, observing learning in action. These visits allow me to work closely with our teachers, supporting them as they reflect on their practice and identify opportunities for growth. The purpose is not evaluation, but professional growth: celebrating strengths, highlighting effective strategies, and prompting self-reflection. This ongoing process helps teachers become increasingly self-directed in their development. For our students, the benefit is clear—when teachers grow, the quality of teaching and learning grows with them, leading to richer, more engaging, and more supportive classroom experiences.

Professional Development Day – AI at ABIS
Today, our teachers participated in a Professional Development Day focused on Artificial Intelligence in education. Together, we built a shared understanding of ABIS’s AI Policy, explored the International Baccalaureate’s perspective, and reflected on how AI is shaping the role of teaching and learning worldwide. This work helps us prepare for the opportunities and challenges AI brings. Most importantly, it ensures we have a clear, responsible framework that puts student learning first—one that balances innovation with academic integrity, and supports our students in developing the skills they need to use AI critically, ethically, and creatively.

Wishing you all an enjoyable extended weekend.

Best regards,

Matthew
