This week we have begun a new writing unit: personal narratives. The students have learned about the features of personal narratives and have begun brainstorming one of their own based on a day at the beach. We have read recounts of personal experiences and noted the features in these narratives to further our understanding.
We have continued working on time in our time booklets and have also been practising our mental maths using a fun programme called Mystery Box – ask your child all about this thinking activity.
We have finished up our last UOI by demonstrating the complex machines we built in our groups, then the students completed a self-assessment before I assessed their summative unit task.
We have just begun our last unit: How we express ourselves by looking at the central ideas and the lines of inquiry, along with noting the specified concepts and learner profile qualities. We played some drama warm-up games, then chose which short play-scripts we’d like to read with our group. Next week, we will practise our scripts as a reader’s theatre, where we choose our characters and practise reading a part.
Next week will be another short week. We will work on our day at the beach narrative, work in our guided reading groups and continue applying our phonic and spelling knowledge.
In maths, we will finish up our time unit and continue developing our mental maths fluency.
