Congrats to all of our students who finished their Arabic exams today! We know all the time and effort you put into studying for your exams, especially since this is the first year you had to take them. We are sure you did amazing and now you can finally relax that they are over!

In literacy, we explored where different types of evidence can be found for their debates. Students identified books, experts, surveys and interviews as possible places to gather evidence from. Each group came up with a question which could be added to a Google Form survey to get evidence they need to include within their argument. It is with the hope that the results will give them a percentage that they can use.

In maths we had a week of mental maths challenges, and they rose to the challenge! Students explored different brain teasers and were able to share their understanding of the problem along with how they solved it! We were impressed by the many different ways to solve a problem, and even ways that we as teachers didn’t see!

In UOI students reflected on their understanding so far of what they have learned about farming methods and ethical choices. Students were introduced to project-based learning as part of the investigation phase within the concept-based inquiry cycle. Students began with a KWL chart (know, wonder, learned) and identified what they already knew about where food comes from. After a short video, they added their wonderings and what they learned, which we will continue to add to. We also looked at ethical production methods through different scenarios which they had to explain if it was ethical or unethical.

You can find more photos from the week here.

Upcoming Dates:

  • Wednesday 4th June: All library books MUST be returned
  • Thursday 12th June: G3-G6 Summer Concert (12:00-1:00 pm)

Looking forward

Next week, students will be continuing with their project based learning in our unit of inquiry, exploring the process of a food from farm to the table. In maths we will look at how fractions, decimals and percentages are all connected. In literacy, students will be finalising their debates within their teams for either the proposition or opposition. We are excited to hear what evidence they have found to support their claims!

Best wishes, Grade 5 Team!
