Dear Primary Families,
This week at ABIS has been a great reminder of the many ways our students connect with their learning—whether through sharing their progress with you during Student-Led Conferences or exploring stories during our Book Week activities.
Student-Led Conferences
Student-Led Conferences are always a highlight of the school year. It’s a time when students take the lead in showing their families the work they’ve been doing and the spaces where they learn each day. I particularly enjoy hearing about the students—often the youngest—who take their time making sure their parents see every part of the classroom and complete each activity on their SLC checklist. Thank you to all the families who were able to attend. I hope it gave you a clearer picture of your child’s day-to-day learning experience.
Book Week
Throughout the week, we’ve been recognising World Book Day with a variety of activities across the primary school. Students have taken part in bookmark making, buddy reading between grade levels, and a “Find Wally/Waldo” recess activity. A special mention goes to our first ever Great Book Swap, which encouraged students to exchange a well-loved book with a peer—something we hope to continue in future years.
To wrap up the week, students and staff joined in Character Day today, dressing up as book characters. I chose to come as Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory—a book by Roald Dahl, who lived in the same village where I grew up in England. There’s now a museum there dedicated to his life and work, which is well worth a visit if you’re ever nearby.
Wishing you a great weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Matthew
Primary Team Lead
