Dear Primary Families,

It was lovely to see so many of you at last night’s Iftar Supper. I appreciate that this is a very special time of year for those celebrating Ramadan, and I enjoyed the chance to be part of the event.

The highlight of my week was joining the Grade 1s on their visit to the supermarket at City Centre! The students have been exploring their How We Organise Ourselves unit, learning about roles and responsibilities in the community. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my group as we toured the shop, completed a scavenger hunt, and asked employees about their jobs. I do think some of my group had the most fun pushing the trolley, but it certainly helped them develop teamwork and motor skills!

World Maths Day – Wednesday, 26th March

Next week, we will celebrate World Maths Day with a range of activities in the Mazoon, where students will collaborate through engaging maths games. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the joy of numbers, problem-solving, and real-life applications of mathematics.

Here are some fun activities your child can try at home to mark the occasion:

  • Maths Scavenger Hunt – Challenge your child to find numbers, shapes, and patterns around the house (e.g., “Find something with a circle shape” or “Spot a number greater than 10”).
  • Baking with Maths – Get hands-on by measuring ingredients, counting items, and discussing fractions while baking something simple like cookies.
  • Real-Life Budgeting Challenge – Give your child a small budget (e.g., 5 OMR) and ask them to plan a meal, choosing ingredients while staying within the budget. They can check online prices or use a shopping receipt for reference.
  • Dice Game – Race to 100 – Using two dice, take turns rolling and adding numbers to reach exactly 100. Modify the game by using subtraction or multiplication for an extra challenge.

Encouraging children to see maths in their everyday lives helps develop a love for numbers and problem-solving. We’d love to see their learning in action—feel free to share pictures or stories with us!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Best regards,

Matthew
Primary Team Lead
