Dear ABIS Families,
This week, our middle school students participated in an inter-class football tournament during lunch break. The tournament began on Sunday and ended on Thursday. All the teams played on a reduced indoor pitch, where technical ability was crucial to winning. The G8 team won all their round-robin games and advanced to the final. Meanwhile, the G10 team drew their first round-robin game but won their final round-robin match against the G9 team to qualify for the final. Despite being the favourites, the G9 team only won one game against the G7 team and suffered two losses. The G7 team drew one game but lost two during the round-robin stage.
On Wednesday, the G9 team defeated the G7 team 1-0 in the third-place match. The younger students must be commended for their fighting spirit against their older peers. The final was played between the G8 and G10 teams – it was shared that both teams were discussing their team strategies before the start of the school day. The game was played in good spirits, with both teams demonstrating good skill and discipline throughout. At half-time, the score was still 0-0. However, in the last two minutes of the second half, the G8 team broke the deadlock when Joaquim’s shot deflected off a defender into the net. The G10 team had a few chances to equalize, but the opposing team’s defense held firm. At the end of the game, the final score was 1-0 in favour of the G8 team.
