Dear Primary Families,
Where have those 16 weeks gone? When we started school back on August 20th, the winter break seemed so very far away, and yet here we are! We have enjoyed 16 busy and successful weeks, packed full of learning and a whole range of exciting events and activities, culminating in our two Sports Days yesterday and today. What a great way to head into the holidays, and we thank our PSPE team—Mr. Fernando, Ms. Dorothy, and Ms. Nuria—for their hard work and efforts.
Last week, we enjoyed the winter concert, and this week began with the wonderful musical play, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. I would like to congratulate all those involved—it truly was a fabulous show! The students did so very well, performing with great skill and confidence, and they were a credit to Mr. Peter and those who supported him in preparing them. As an IB school, we value balance, one of the Learner Profiles, and it is always pleasing to see how students manage their time to allow them to enjoy their passions.
While we hope that the next three weeks provide an opportunity for our students—and teachers!—to rest and relax, we would also suggest you encourage your child to spend some time reading each day. Reading for 20 minutes per day has been shown to have such a positive impact on academic performance. Benefits include enhancing a child’s writing development and imagination, stimulating creativity, encouraging children to relax at bedtime, and helping the development of empathy, for example. So, build time into your holiday plans, if possible, and spend time talking with your child about their reading.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support so far this year. The home-school partnership is important, and we hope to continue working together for the benefit of all our students.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday, whether you are staying in Sohar or traveling further afield. I am certainly looking forward to time with my family and friends.
We will look forward to welcoming students back to school on Sunday, 7th January.
Best regards,
Matthew
