Hello everybody,

We, Ms Amy, Ms Sri & Ms Suad, are very pleased and excited to have had a great start with a delightful bunch of students and a refreshing set of ‘start of the year’ activities.

What we did in Week 1: Getting to know each other and team building activities were our major focus this week. This means lots of conversation among students where they learn to ask questions, be good listeners and interact with each other. We have established some routines that students are expected to follow at the start of the day, during transition, during class and at the end of the day. We read a fun book ‘First Day Jitters’ and the students expressed their first day feelings by drawing emojis and by doing a write-up about how we felt on the first day of school. We also self-assessed our writing and drawing using a rubric. Please see the rubric attached herewith. At the end of the week, we worked on coming up with our essential agreement, establishing a class culture base on kindness and motivation for learning,

Where to find samples of students’ work this week:

  • Week 1 photos on Google Drive
  • Seesaw journal (please let us know if you do not have access to Seesaw yet)

Family Message Journal: Students will bring home an exercise book ‘Family message journal’. This is a book that students would use this year to reflect on their learning and share this with their parents. Today, they wrote a letter to their parents about their first week at school. We highly appreciate you taking time to go through this and have a chat with your child. Also, please feel free to write your message/comment below your child’s letter as a reply from you. We look forward to reading these.

Homework: We will start Homework from the end of Week 2. More information to come next week.

Note regarding Swimming:

Regrettably, we have to temporarily postpone swimming classes for students in grades 3 to 6 due to this matter. The pool has developed an unexpected leak, causing water to drain more rapidly than usual. Please know that this issue is actively being addressed and the work is going on to resolve it promptly. We will keep you updated through email as soon as the pool is repaired and ready for use. Meanwhile, all physical education (PE) classes will continue as scheduled.

Things to bring everyday:

  • Water bottle
  • Sun hat/cap for outdoor play during morning recess
  • Pencil case
  • Healthy snacks and Lunch

A quick heads up on upcoming events:

  • 30 Aug – Parent Information Evening
  • 10 Sep – After-School Activities Round 1 begins (Sign up information will be sent out soon)
