Dear Primary Families,
The end of the academic year means many celebrations of learning for students and parents to participate in. At ABIS these include a Cook Off, a Trade Fair, Solar Cooking, a Theatre Exhibition, many presentations of culminating projects and of course our Summer Concert and Art Exhibition. Thank you to teachers for their hard work in putting these events together to highlight just some of the achievements of the school year, and thank you to parents for ongoing support and participation all year long.
As you know, next week is the last week of the school year. Teachers are winding down of course, but learning is still happening until the last day of school. If, for any reason, your child is not able to attend school next week, please let their teachers know as soon as possible so that they can plan accordingly. Children will be dismissed on Thursday, June 22 at lunchtime: 12:20pm. This allows time for teachers to finish packing up classrooms to make them ready for summer cleaning during the afternoon. Next week, you will start to see your child’s belongings, books and work from the year coming home. Take some time to look at it with your child. It’s a good opportunity for them to tell you directly about their learning and for you to see specific examples of how they have developed their knowledge and skills over the year.
End of year report cards will go home next Tuesday, June 20. This allows you time to read the report, discuss it with your child, and if you have any questions, to contact your child’s teachers for clarification. Be sure to celebrate your child’s achievements with them! And as always, talk about next steps in learning as they head into a new grade. What can they do over summer to be ready for their new grade? READ, READ, and then READ some more! And whenever possible, continue to practice their speaking skills, be it over a campfire, during a long drive or talking to you about the stories they are reading each day.
Enjoy your final weekend of the school year! Maeve
