Dear Families;

Please make a note that next week, Thursday, Sept. 29, is a Professional Development Day for ABIS. Teachers will spend the day looking at our CIS Accreditation process as well as planning collaboratively for events throughout the academic year.  There will be NO SCHOOL for students that day.  Enjoy the long weekend with your children.

Our swim program is well underway and students are loving the opportunity to get into the water every week.  Thank you to Mr. Fernando and Ms. Dorothy, as well as Coach Tatiana and Coach Valentina for providing differentiated and safe learning experiences in the pool for our students.  Thank you to parents who have been stellar about sending students prepared for swim lessons with the appropriate swimwear, goggles, swim cap and a towel.

After School Activities have begun and students are enjoying them.  We were able to accommodate most students, even those on waiting lists!  We will be adjusting our program and putting together the next round of activities for after October break, which will include outdoor options for the students.  We have some parents already volunteering their time and would love to have more involvement there.  Let us know if you’re keen to offer an activity to our students.

All Primary students visit the library each week in order to enjoy reading and to have the opportunity to choose a book or two for at home reading. Please help your child to care for the library books and help them with the routine of keeping them in a safe place and returning them to school on time.  While we do monitor student choices according to age and grade, library time is about promoting a love of books and reading and allowing students the choice of what they want to read about.  Please encourage this love of literacy at home in any way you can, through reading together, providing time to enjoy reading, and allowing your child to choose interesting and engaging reading materials.

Our first Primary Assembly will be hosted by Grades 5 & 6 on Thursday, October 6, at 12:30pm in the Mazoon.  All parents and students are invited.

I wish you all a lovely weekend!  Maeve
