Dear Families,
Thank you for continuing to support learning online. Most of our students are continuing to engage and challenge themselves with their learning. Working online helps students to develop very important self management skills and communication skills. It encourages us to think about things in a different way and it is a good opportunity to develop research skills. Our social interactions are different than when we are in person and so students are collaborating in different ways. All of these are connected to the PYP Approaches to Learning skills that are woven throughout all learning at ABIS. Notice when your child completes work independently, keeps learning materials organized, finishes assignments on time, waits for an appropriate time to speak during online meetings, listens to classmates and responds thoughtfully, engages positively during the online meets, keeps track of time and schedules, etc… Praise them for these things and encourage independence and self reliance.
One way you can let your child know you are noticing their hard work is to make a comment on their work on SeeSaw. This will motivate your child and make them feel that their efforts are worthwhile. Ask a question about their work and see what they respond to you. It’s a great way to make connections with them and their learning.
Please make note that there is an ABIS long weekend coming up. Next Thursday Feb. 10, Sunday Feb. 13 and Monday Feb. 14 there will be no school for students. ABIS teachers will be at school on Monday, Feb. 14 for a Professional Learning Day focused around student wellness and looking at standards for our CIS Accreditation. School will resume on Feb. 15 and we hope we will have permission to come back face to face on that day.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend. Maeve
