We are one week into our ASAs and kids are clearly happy to have these activities back on the schedule. I have personally enjoyed getting back into small group work with students during this time.
Grade 12 students have been working on their university applications and need some parental encouragement. The process of applying is daunting for students. They have mostly narrowed their options to just a few and now just need the time and support to complete the applications. A few have set this weekend as their goal to get this done… please support them at home.
Grade 10 Students will be hosting an exhibition to show the rest of the school the culmination of their year of work on their personal project. All secondary students will be attending the exhibition. We look forward to seeing their work on display next week (December 2).
Also… Grade 10 Students will be starting the selection process for DP courses. In December, there will be a parent meeting to discuss the key aspects of the DP and introduce students and parents to the course options. In January, another meeting will be held with all DP teachers to allow parents to ask some detailed questions before making a final choice. DP parents should look to Mr. Michael’s email for further details on these events.
Next week, for all three days, we will be hosting two representatives from CIS, the Council of International Schools, as part of our re-accreditation process. They will be joining us virtually and spending time in our classes as well as a barrage of meetings with students, parents, teachers and support staff. CIS re-accreditation occurs every 5 years and is an 18 month process. Next week’s virtual visit represents about 4 months of effort and will kick off the next 14 months of deeper study into how ABIS can continue to grow and improve to meet our goal of being a leading school in the GCC.
From the Library: Recently the ABIS library has seen an influx of library books that are coming back after having been checked out up to 3 years ago! There are many books that are still missing from the library. Please take the time in the next few weeks, or during the upcoming winter break, to look through your bookshelves and children’s rooms for any ABIS library books. They may have ABIS stamps inside or out, an ABIS barcode on the back cover and/or a library spine label. We are working hard in the library to have all books marked consistently so that our users are able to locate the books they need as quickly as possible. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
