This week we were fortunate to meet a real archaeologist. As well as studying to become a teacher, Ms Fiona also studied archaeology. So she was our mystery guest on Sunday. Luckily for us, Ms Fiona brought many of her tools to Oman with her.

It was fascinating hearing about the archaeological digs she has worked on and seeing photos from her digs. She told us about the different techniques archaeologists must use depending on whether a site is dry or wet. We found out that the archaeologists must draw precise drawings of the artefacts they find, and write detailed notes about them too. To be an archaeologist you need to be very careful, methodical, patient and pretty flexible because it is slow, back-breaking work.

It was interesting to see some of her artefacts and we were amazed to hear some of these items are around 2000 years old. It is interesting to see the materials that different artefacts are made of.

In Arabic with Ms Eiman, we have been learning about some Omani artefacts and how they were used. We are enjoying drawing them. Learning about artefacts makes us wonder what future civilizations will find remaining from our lives.
