We were delighted to have a guest speaker in our online class this week. We have been learning about water as a natural resource and were very fortunate to have Jule’s dad, Antonio, join our class to teach us about how the water is desalinated in Sohar. We had done some prior research ourselves and prepared many questions.

It was interesting to learn from Antonio that the sea water in Sohar is desalinated using pressure and a filtering process which is better for the environment and more affordable than boiling the sea water. It was interesting to learn that after water is desalinated and treated, minerals are added to it to make it suitable for drinking.

We learned that there is a problem which affects us all. People and modern society around the world are demanding more and more water. Next week we will put our thinking caps on and think of ways to solve this problem.
It has been another busy and exciting week in Grade 3. With the schooling changes next week we did our best to complete the work we had started. We undertook some fun investigations exploring the capacity of various vessels in Maths.

We used measurement tools to demonstrate what proportion of the world’s water is salty and fresh, and then discovered that only 1% of the water in the world is actually safe to drink (potable)!

We added the finishing touches to our biographies and pulled out the stops to finish the gripping Michael Morpurgo novel we have been reading. Studying a different poem about water has helped us to learn and question different aspects of water, and practise our reading!

It will be exciting discovering more about the precious natural resource that water is, next week.
