This week, we have been exploring the many facets of dots. Dots are everywhere. Our playgrounds, our Math, our Writing and even in our Reading. So many dots!
We were thinkers this week. Whilst initially we created two, three and four colour repeating patterns, we let our imaginations go free with the tessellation blocks, designing and exploring more intricate patterns. We looked at what characteristics patterns had. Check out patterns around the home and be sure to discuss these with your child. Patterns are everywhere.
In Maths we made ten frames with dots. Ten frames help us with the skill of subitising. It is the ability to instantaneously recognise the number of objects in a small group without the need to count them. Establishing a solid foundation in subitising will support our number development.
Writing this week saw us be word detectives. We wrote the words we knew and then found words all-round the classroom, writing them in our dot frames. Letters and Words are everywhere!
