Its been a busy week in grade five. The children engaged in a number of hands on math tasks during their work on area and perimeter. One math challenge that generated a lot of laughter as they learned was to guess, measure and physically stand in the amount of space they thought they would need if all fifteen stood clumped together. Another great learning experience was when Mr. Tomalin shared with the children the plans for the new buildings and his use of area and perimeter in the course of planning. For writing the class continued to work on report writing. During the course of their work on the unit of inquiry the children developed their understanding of industrialization and the costs and benefits associated with it.
