A group of children investigated the origins of words used in English and made some interesting discoveries. They found that English has borrowed heavily from many languages including Hindi (pajama), Arabic (Algebra), Malay (compound), Italian (graffiti), French (sandwich), Italian (pasta). Chinese (ketchup) and many more. They presented their findings to their peers and grade six. In math, the class continued working on multiplying hundreds by ones and teens by tens. Next eek they will begging to work on division. In writing the children continued working on information reports with a grammar focus on tenses (past, present and future). This will continue into next week. Our current unit on challenges will conclude next week and the new unit on forces and motion will begin late next week or early the following week.
