How do we become a polyglot? How many words do we need to speak a foreign language? This week, students in G11 reflected on what language learning meant and worked together to find the best strategies to develop linguistic skills and become polyglots.
What did they find out? The key to learning languages is to dare speaking them and reuse what we already know to learn new words and expressions.
Be inventive and use your logic to form new words based on prefixes and suffixes, for example, in different European languages (-tion, -ción, -zione).
Practise every day with your friends or online.
Be open-minded and curious.
Don’t be scared of making mistakes and learn from others.
Finally, you don’t need to be fluent or have reach native speaker standard to express yourself in another language. One word is a start!
