As we wrap up our first unit of inquiry on Heroes, Grade 4 students are making plans to take action in our community. They were excited and inspired by student projects they read about on the website Kids Are Heroes and wanted to make their own hero projects as well. Grade 4 came up with an ambitious list of potential hero projects and were asked to select something that they were passionate about.
They then worked in groups to discuss possible actions they could take to make a difference in the area that they were passionate about. They are now very busy planning their specific steps and who is going to be responsible for what and when. As one of the things we discussed about being a hero was having choice, students will be initiating, managing and following through on these projects on their own. They will have to be the driving force behind these plans and I am so excited to hear about the progress they will make at a later check-in date.
