The ABIS Secondary curriculum can currently be broken down into the middle years programme for students, who are approximately aged 12 to 14, and the externally assessed IGCSE (International General Certificate of Education) for students who are approximately between the ages of 14 and 16. For students aged 16-18, we offer the IB Diploma programme.
The ABIS middle years programme is a carefully customised curriculum covering a broad range of traditional and non-traditional subjects ranging from the Sciences to the Arts and is designed to deepen the students’ knowledge, enhance their skills, introduce new concepts, and prepare them for the challenging assessments and exams that they will face in the IGCSE. The IGCSE is a respected and recognized academic programme that lays the foundations for a post 16 education.
As students progress through the school they face greater demands, increased pressure, and higher expectations, all of which are supported by a pastoral system that develops their organisational skills, ability to learn independently and prioritise. A unique aspect of the school is the model of teaching in which every child has a personal adult advisor, individual workstation and an iPad, empowering them to take more control of their learning. The small class sizes ensure that students are given lots of attention and guidance and that teachers can personalize learning for each student.
The IB Diploma is a world-class curriculum for students aged 16 to age 18 that truly challenges them. It is commonly recognised by universities as a gold standard in education and an excellent preparation for the rigor and demands of university life. In fact, studies have shown that IB Students are less likely to drop out of university and normally go on to achieve higher results than students who have taken alternative programmes such as the British ‘A’ levels. The school is authorised to teach the IB Diploma are the only school in the Al Batinah region to offer the programme.
