Their aim was to reach saturation point &#8211; where no more sugar would dissolve into the water.  Initial predictions ranged from two to six spoonfuls &#8230;but fifteen to seventeen spoonfuls later, these predictions were discarded!  The students discovered that the water level rose slightly, the water colour changed and the consistency of the water was oily to touch.  They found that if there was more water added, it took many more spoonfuls of sugar to reach saturation.  <\/p>\n<p><a
