Alla’s wide eyes; Anton’s motor mouth; Michael’s fidgeting; Tamika’s bouncing knees; everybody showed their nervousness in their own way. But when the starter shouted, “Swimmers, take your mark,” all that anxiety seemed to vanish and our students made ABIS proud.<\/p>\n

The setting was The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) and the event was our first-ever swim competition. Fifteen students from grades 3-8 made up our inaugural swim team and they went up against not just TAISM but also the Sultan School. The atmosphere was lively, positive, and exciting.<\/p>\n

Despite being a small, inexperienced school, ABIS did very well. Special kudos to Tamika and Chloe, who won several of their races, Claire, who came in second a few times, and both our relay teams, who gutted out impressive swims. Our youngest swimmers–Marius, Courtney, Sachin, Alla, and Abishek–showed impressive composure in a new and, at times, intimidating scene.<\/p>\n
