We investigated different <\/span><b>community spaces<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and thought about the people who use them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Students explored questions such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">What is a community?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">What places can we find in a community?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Who uses these places?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">What do people need from community spaces?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">How do community members help one another?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Through discussions, pictures, partner work and hands-on activities, students shared their ideas about places such as <\/span><b>schools, hospitals, libraries, parks, shops and police stations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. We encouraged students to explain their thinking and make connections between <\/span><b>community members, their needs and the spaces around them<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our learning continues to develop students&#8217; <\/span><b>communication, thinking and social skills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as they learn that communities are made up of people who have different roles and needs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #008000\"><b>\u00a0Literacy<\/b><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This week, we continued developing our <\/span><b style=\"color: #000000\">phonics and early reading skills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Students practised listening carefully for sounds in words, blending sounds together and applying their phonics knowledge when reading and writing. We also reviewed diagraphs. The \u2018ch\u2019, \u2018sh\u2019 and \u2018th\u2019.<\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">We are also continuing to build:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">High-frequency and everyday vocabulary<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Speaking in complete sentences<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Reading simple texts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Answering questions about what we have read<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Writing simple ideas independently<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are focusing on helping students use <\/span><b>English confidently in everyday classroom situations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><b>Mathematics<\/b><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In Mathematics next week, we will continue developing our understanding of <\/span><b>2D shapes and their properties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Students will explore how to describe and identify shapes using mathematical vocabulary such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">sides<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">corners\/vertices<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">straight<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">curved<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">same<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">different<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will be encouraged to explain <\/span><b>how they know<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a shape is a particular shape and to compare different shapes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #00ccff\"><b>Language Development<\/b><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">We are continuing to build our everyday English vocabulary through our learning.
