Dear Parents,

Reading is a very important part of our learning in Grade 1, and we want our children to develop both confidence and a genuine enjoyment of books. Each week, the children visit our school library and have the opportunity to choose books they enjoy. Reading together at home is a wonderful way to encourage this love of reading while also developing vocabulary, language skills and imagination.

We have also started guided reading, where the children read in small groups and receive support at their individual level. This helps them develop their reading fluency, confidence and understanding.

Home Reading Routine: Please aim to read with your child for 15–20 minutes each day. This can include reading the books from the Reading Folder, practising Tricky Words, and using RAZ Kids. On RAZ Kids, children can listen to a book first before reading it independently, helping them become familiar with new words and sentences. Login details can be found in the Reading Folder.

Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey at home. Your time and encouragement make a real difference.

Kind regards,
