We are finishing this part of our first Unit, though we will return to do some more inquiry and discovery throughout the year. More children brought in their Shoebox Autobiographies- a collection of special objects that are meaningful to them or have memories attached to them. They each presented their objects and spoke about them to the rest of the class. Other students enjoyed seeing and hearing about these items and asked interesting questions to find out more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We also did a cultural mind map, trying to pull together the many different parts that make up our concept of culture. Children watched some videos and took notes in the form of drawings or words to help them learn research skills using different sources. They enjoyed sharing different words or phrases that they knew in other languages too. The mind map will help them remember and continue to form their concept of culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We focused on understanding what communication is and what forms of communication we use., a Learner Profile attribute and an ATL skill relevant to this unit. Students enjoyed doing sign language and showing their feelings with facial expressions, in partners and to the whole class. We looked at photos of ourselves using different types of communication in the class and attempted to identify these types- speaking, listening, writing, drawing, graphs etc. This gives the children concrete examples and repeats the idea of communication in different ways so they can reach an understanding of this big word!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I am very pleased with how well the children are settling into routines and beginning to show positive relationships towards each other and trying hard with their learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Happy Weekend Everyone!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1BHKIRAqfcrlo_pDnf0Ai6GjWCR3WYW_e?usp=sharing\" rel=\"\">Wk 5 in 2B<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Communication and culture in 2B this week!
