Another week has flown by! Students have been working hard on many different things this week. Firstly, they have continued to bring in cultural objects and presented these to their class. They listen to each other and then try to ask questions to find out more. Several students have already made their Shoebox Autobiography- still time until next week to finish these. As the special items are hidden in a box, other students were very curious to find out what was inside! There were a range of different objects that were meaningful for the children- photos, toys, shells, models, books, drawings and each child was able to explain why the objects were special or had a treasured memory attached to them. Thank you for doing this with your child at home.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Maths, we revisited place value and did some activities and games together to check our understanding. This is a very important part of number learning, knowing that the value of a number depends on it\u2019s position\/place. Using ones , tens and hundred blocks first, we demonstrate we know how bigger numbers are made. Then we move to writing the numbers and then we can start to add bigger numbers. Also, we learnt about Venn diagrams and practised drawing them on the whiteboards- the link to the video we used will be put on Seesaw for review. We paired up and drew cultural venn diagrams as we asked a friend from a different country which things were the same and which things were different, Children also drew their own cultural picture. Of course, we found that many things are similar and decided it was the differences that made it interesting and why we like to visit other countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students had some special tests on the ipad this week which they tried hard at. These are done in Grade 2 and give us information on speaking, listening, reading and writing. It is helpful for the children and teachers to know their next steps informed by these assessments. We will continue with the PM reading assessment next week.<\/span><\/p>\n
