This week students continued to get into the school routine, settled into friendship groups, learnt to work together and some had their first ASA- After School Activity!<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2B, students were sorted into groups for Guided Reading so that they can read together and support each other. Each group is encouraged to read together and will have some instructional time with the teacher. They are given their own sight word cards and usually have another literacy activity to do. This encourages collaboration and working independently from the teacher for part of the session. Students have been doing phonic, sight-word and writing assessments too<\/span><\/p>\n

The students had fun with a magnetic darts game in Maths, again working in groups but also helping each other to count up their scores and, again, helping each other. Also in Maths, we had more assessments which help the teacher understand previous knowledge and skills, guiding us towards appropriate next steps. We did some Data handling where we made tally points for the information gathered about what we like and dislike in our classroom! We found that many people like friends, caring and helping each other the most. This connects to our Unit as we also think about \u2018 classroom culture\u2019 so used our results to make Essential Agreements for how we behave in our classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several students brought in cultural items from their country and showed them to the rest of the class, explaining what they were and where they were from. We had some traditional costumes- from Oman and Pakistan, jewellery, khanjar, a rugby ball and a photo of Muddy Volcanoes that also had a mysterious tale attached! Students were very good at asking questions to find out more, an inquiry skill which is valued in our curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n
