Students have been busy working on spelling, phonics, reading, and of course writing. We had our first spelling test this Thursday. The students completed their first recount paragraph as a class. We decided together to write about our indoor PE game that I introduced to the students. We completed an introductions paragraph together. Next week we will continue writing our recount. This will be your child’s first 5 paragraph writing assignment. The goal is that by the end of the year they can write a recount on their own. During phonics this week the students practiced vowels, consonants, short vowels and digraphs. They were introduced to the rules of c and k. For your information the c begins a word when it is followed by a, o and u. The letter k begins a word when it is followed by e or i. Next week I will introduce the /k/ ending sound and when to use k or ck. For reading we will be focusing on fables during this UOI. Please share with your child fables that you grew up with.

Unit of Inquiry, Who We Are began with a culture collage. Students used their iPads in class for the first time to make their culture collages. They inputted in Google their country and followed it by collage clipart. The students then drew five or more objects that represent their culture. That might include clothing, food, flag, language, holidays, places, beliefs and anything that reminds them of home. Ideas to discuss with your child are clothing that is specific to your country, food, dance, music, instruments, famous landmarks, and anything that you believe makes your country’s culture unique. Next week the students will compare and contrast the different countries our class represents. Students will complete a home project during this unit, Who We Are. They will be making a Shoebox Autobiography. The Shoebox Autobiography is due September 20th. I will share the directions with you Sunday, on SeeSaw.

For math students were introduced to data handling using tally charts, pictographs, and bar graphs. They also continued to review place values up to hundreds by completing a number of the day and working with place value disks to represent numbers up to 999. Next week we will continue working on data handling and place value. Ask your child if I had the number 432, what does the 3 represent. Their answer should be 3 tens.

PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WITH HEADPHONES, IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!!

Sundays = Library Day and Reading Journal returned to the students.

Mondays = Swimming

Thursdays = Return Reading Journal to the teacher

Sep 6th = ASA round 1 begins

Sep 15th = Coffee morning at ABIS 8:00-9:30 Primary and Secondary

Weekly Photos Here!!!
