It has been a busy and exciting week in Grade 3 as we began exploring our first Who We Are unit of inquiry. Our new unit focuses on the human body, body systems, and the choices we make to keep ourselves healthy. To tune into the unit, students participated in a See\u2013Think\u2013Wonder Gallery Walk. Working in small groups, they rotated through different images connected to the human body, sharing what they could see, what they thought, and what they wondered. This gave students the opportunity to share their prior knowledge, ask questions, and develop their communication, thinking, and self-management skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Literacy, we began exploring non-fiction texts and discussing what makes them different from fiction. Students started identifying different non-fiction text features and thinking about how these features help us find and understand information. In Mathematics, we explored place value and discussed the different ways numbers can be represented. Students worked with standard form, expanded form, and number form, building their understanding of the value of each digit in a number.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also continued building our classroom community. Students had opportunities to be communicators as they shared stories and memories from their summer vacations with their classmates. These moments have helped us learn more about one another and continue developing a positive and welcoming Grade 3 community.<\/span><\/p>\n
