It’s been a pleasure to meet my new G7 LA class this week. They’ve all settled in really well, been on time, and are engaged and ready to learn.<\/p>\n

Our first unit is ‘Me, Myself and I’. We kicked off our first week by looking at some of the new terminology they need to become familiar with- including what ‘acquisition’ actually means.<\/p>\n

The students inquired into the meaning of ‘communication,’<\/b>\u00a0establishing that communication takes many different forms and goes far beyond the words we use. We had fun keeping the words exactly the same while changing our tone and register, body language, facial expressions and gestures to see how nonverbal cues can completely change the meaning of a message. We then explored the idea of \u2018conventions\u2019<\/strong> and looked at communication gestures from around the world, discovering that the same gesture can have very different meanings\/ rules depending on the culture or country in which it is used.<\/p>\n

I’m excited about our learning opportunities this year and to see the progress they will make!<\/p>\n
