The students also wrote their light pre-assessment.

As part of our tuning in, students listened carefully to a variety of sounds and worked together to guess what they were. They described the sounds using vocabulary such as loud, soft, high, and low, and began explaining their thinking using “because,” just like real scientists.

We then explored how sound is made through hands-on investigations. Students discovered that sound is created when objects vibrate and that these vibrations travel through the air to our ears. They have been developing their scientific thinking by observing, testing, and explaining their ideas.

To extend this learning, students also worked creatively to design and create their own sounds using classroom materials. They experimented with different objects and explored how to make sounds louder, softer, higher, or lower, while explaining their thinking.

In English, we worked on prefixes and also revisited suffixes. Students explored how adding a prefix or suffix can change the meaning of a word and practiced using them in their writing and spelling activities.

In Maths, we continued working on fractions, focusing on numerator and denominator, adding fractions, subtracting fractions, and understanding where fractions sit on a number line. Students have been developing their understanding by using drawings, models, and explanations to show their thinking.

Looking ahead, next week we will continue exploring sound, focusing on how sound can change and how it is used to communicate. Students will investigate loud and soft sounds, explore high and low pitch, understand how sound is used in real life such as sirens, alarms, and signals, and begin thinking about how we can design and create with sound. We will then begin transitioning into our learning about light.

Students have also been given information about a Light and Sound Home Project. They will design and create a simple device that produces either sound or light using materials from home. This project will allow students to apply their learning in a creative and meaningful way, and we are very excited to see their ideas.

Photos this week

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm regards,
Ms Cami

Light and Sound project letter: Project letter

Dear Robloxian Parents, This week we have been diving deeper into our Unit of Inquiry, How the World Works, focusing on sound and how it helps us experience the world.
