They have explored what makes something \u201cliving\u201d by learning the <strong data-start=\"256\" data-end=\"283\">characteristics of life<\/strong> and how organisms are structured from <strong data-start=\"322\" data-end=\"360\">cells \u2192 tissues \u2192 organs \u2192 systems<\/strong>. Students now understand that the <strong data-start=\"395\" data-end=\"429\">cell is the basic unit of life<\/strong> and have examined its main parts\u2014<strong data-start=\"463\" data-end=\"504\">nucleus, cytoplasm, and cell membrane<\/strong>\u2014and their roles. Through practical work, including using <strong data-start=\"562\" data-end=\"600\">microscopes to observe onion cells<\/strong>, they have developed essential lab skills and connected theory to real observation. They have also compared <strong data-start=\"709\" data-end=\"735\">plant and animal cells<\/strong>, explored <strong data-start=\"746\" data-end=\"785\">cell organelles and their functions<\/strong>, and investigated <strong data-start=\"804\" data-end=\"825\">specialized cells<\/strong> (muscle, nerve, red blood, palisade, and root hair cells) to understand how <strong data-start=\"902\" data-end=\"933\">structure supports function<\/strong> in living systems.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"954\" data-end=\"1462\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Students will complete their <strong data-start=\"983\" data-end=\"1047\">Criterion A (Knowing and Understanding) summative assessment<\/strong> on <strong data-start=\"1051\" data-end=\"1070\">Monday, 4th May<\/strong>, with <strong data-start=\"1077\" data-end=\"1114\">feedback provided within the week<\/strong>. Looking ahead, we will begin exploring how science applies to real-world contexts by examining <strong data-start=\"1211\" data-end=\"1241\">uncontrolled cell division<\/strong> and its link to <strong data-start=\"1258\" data-end=\"1268\">cancer<\/strong>, including how scientific understanding informs <strong data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1343\">identity and treatment<\/strong>.
