I have sent home your child’s Glow and Grow<\/strong> sheet if you were unable to attend the Student-led Conferences, please complete the parent section for your child and return it to me as soon as possible. For those who brought theirs home with them, please return it by next week.<\/p>\n

We have enjoyed a variety of activities for Book Week, the students have enjoyed sharing books with Grade 5, finding Wally and some students have been able to participate in a book swap. Today we really enjoyed being a book character and seeing all the amazing costumes around the school. We were incredibly fortunate to have Lukas’ mum come to read to us in two languages, English and Arabic. We really enjoyed the story and we all made connections to the story of a young child with hiccups and what is the best way to stop them.<\/p>\n

On Monday morning we were able to attend the Grade 10 Personal Projects presentations. The students were very attentive and learned about a variety of inquiries the Grade 10 students had undertaken.<\/p>\n

In maths, we have revisited place value and finding out whether a 3-digit number was odd or even. We realised that if we look at the ones place, we could identify if the number was even or odd. We drew pictures of our favourite food, then decided how to equally share our food, whether in 1\/2, 1\/3 or 1\/4, then we wrote sentences about our food fractions. We have practised finding fraction of amounts and of shapes.<\/p>\n

In literacy, we have met in reading groups, learned new letter patterns to continue developing our English spelling and practised our handwriting. We were able to have a bit of time to write in our journals and share our writing with each other.<\/p>\n

As a part of our summative assessment and action for our Unit of inquiry: Sharing the Planet, we have recently been focusing on our third line of inquiry: Our responsibility to living things. As a class we have chosen to raise awareness by looking at…<\/p>\n

Seven practices of sustainability:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Reduce (Low Waste + Minimalism)\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n
  2. Reuse\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n
  3. Recycle\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n
  4. Rot (composting food scraps)<\/b><\/li>\n
  5. Repurpose (upcycling)\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n
  6. Repair (fix it, don’t trash it!)<\/b><\/li>\n
  7. Refuse<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    As a class, we brainstormed questions we wanted to ask of our families to promote sustainability in our own homes and in our surrounding environments. Please look at your child’s questions on Seesaw and answer them in the comment box below the questions.<\/strong><\/em> We are making an effort to raise awareness of how we can look after our planet and since today is Earth Day, we hope everyone is making an extra effort to be responsible for all living things.<\/p>\n
