Most students finished during the week, and a few wrapped up today. The effort, creativity, and care that has gone into these projects has been truly wonderful to see.

On Sunday, students will be presenting their work to their classmates. They will be sharing what their animal looks like, what it eats, where it lives, interesting facts, and the food chain it belongs to.

Today, students also worked on creating and labelling a food chain, including both plants and animals, to further strengthen their understanding.

All of these projects will be displayed on their desks during Student Led Conferences, and I truly hope you will be able to join us and celebrate their hard work together.

Please take some time to ask your child about their animal at home. This will help them feel more confident and prepared when presenting to their peers.

Next week, we will begin reflecting on our unit, thinking about what we have learned and how we can take action. We will be discussing ways we can care for animals and our environment.

If your child begins showing small actions at home such as recycling, turning off lights, saving water, or picking up litter, please celebrate these moments with them! Even better, send me a message so I can share it with the class. Our students love knowing that their actions are noticed and valued.

Literacy

This week in Literacy, we continued working on our research reports, alongside our guided reading sessions and independent reading.

We also focused on types of sentences, including statements, questions, and exclamations, and explored the difference between complete sentences and fragments.

Students are beginning to understand that a statement tells something, a question asks something, and an exclamation shows strong feeling.

Next week, we will continue building on this by learning that every sentence has two parts, the who or what and what happened. In more formal terms, the subject and the predicate.

We will also continue practising our vowel teams and spelling patterns, while strengthening our writing and handwriting skills.

Mathematics

In Maths, we have been working on our new unit on fractions.

Students are learning to identify whole, half, third, and quarter, and to divide groups into equal parts. For example, dividing 12 cookies into 4 equal groups and recognising that each group represents one quarter.

We are also exploring fractions on a number line and beginning to recognise fractions such as 1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 1/4, 2/4, and 3/4. Students are also learning that fractions like 2/2, 3/3, and 4/4 equal one whole.

You can support your child at home by making simple, real-life connections such as sharing food, dividing items, or talking about equal parts.

Gentle Reminder

As the weather is warming up, please ensure your child brings a hat to school each day. Without a hat, students will need to sit in the shade during playtime, and we would love for them to fully enjoy their time with friends.

Please see photos here.

Looking Ahead to Next Week

Literacy

We will continue with guided reading and comprehension, practise phonics and spelling patterns, strengthen handwriting, and continue journal writing.

Mathematics

We will continue building mental maths and number sense and deepen our understanding of fractions and how they are used in real life.

Unit of Inquiry

We will reflect on our learning from Sharing the Planet, continue exploring food chains and food webs, create and share our action plans for sustainability, and begin self-assessing our learning.

Important Dates

April 9th – Student Reports
April 15th and 16th- Student Led Conferences
April 16th Primary Assembly Grade 2 to 3
April 23rd Professional Development Day, No School

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
