Most students completed them this week and a few finished today. On Sunday they will present their work to their peers. They will tell us about their animal’s looks, what it eats, where it lives, facts about their animal, and the food chain it belongs to. Today the students will complete a food chain with drawings and label the plants and animals involved in that specific food chain. These projects will be displayed on their desks for the Student Led Conferences. I really hope to see you there.

This week the students wrote and wrote and wrote. They completed their research about their animals and I will say they did a phenomenal job. They read about their animals and wrote about their animals. I am sure they will be happy to move on, but not until you join us at the Student Led Conferences to see their hard work. Please ask about their animals so they are confident when presenting on Sunday to their classmates. Next week we will reflect on their UOI ‘Sharing the Planet’ by completing an end of the unit reflection. We will also be discussing actions that could benefit animals and our environment. Students will share their ideas with each other in the classroom. They will come up with their own ideas on how to take action at school and at home. If your child comes home and starts to recycle, shuts off the water when they brush their teeth or wash their hands, takes shorter showers, cleans up litter when they see it, or even turns off the lights when they leave the room, celebrate their action with them. Send me a message that I can share with the class. YOUR CHILDREN WILL NOTICE THAT YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION!!!

In English we looked at sentences this week. We looked at statements, questions and exclamation sentences. We looked at complete sentences and fragments. Students should understand a statement is a telling sentence. A question is an asking sentence. And an exclamation is a sentence that shows emotions. Next week we will continue learning about sentences. We will discuss how a sentence has two parts, the who and the what happened. To say this in higher grade level words, the subject and predicate. Students will understand a complete sentence includes both the who and what happened. We will continue practicing our vowel teams and their sounds.

In math we are working on fractions and we will continue with this topic next week. Our focus is wholes, halves, thirds, and quarters. We will look at how we can divide groups into equal parts. Example; take these 12 cookies and cut them into four equal groups. Each group represents a quarter of the whole. We will identify half and a quarter on a number line. Example; a number line up to ten and students will show where half is. They will know how to identify ½, ⅓, ⅔, ¼, 2/4, and ¾, They will understand that 2/2. 3/3, and 4/4 equals 1 whole. Please talk to your child about this at home. If you are cutting a pizza, sharing some crackers, or anything that could represent a fraction, talk about it. Making real life connections to what they are learning in the classroom will support their learning.

STUDENTS SHOULD BE READING SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY 20 MINUTES A NIGHT. READING JOURNALS ARE DUE ON THURSDAYS!!! PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR CHILD IN THEIR READING JOURNEY!!!

IMPORTANT DATES!!!

April 9th = Student Reports

April 15th and 16th = Student Led Conferences

April 16th = Primary Assembly Grade 2-3

April 23rd = Professional Development Day No School

Weekly Photos Here!
