Students sang familiar songs, moved their bodies to the beat, and experimented with simple percussion instruments. Activities such as freeze dance and action songs helped develop coordination, listening skills, and confidence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"904\">Even in an online setting, students showed wonderful enthusiasm\u2014clapping, jumping, and singing along from home. The focus this week was on <strong data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"903\">building confidence and enjoying music as a shared experience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"906\" data-end=\"909\" \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"xdgkfn\" data-start=\"911\" data-end=\"978\">Lower Primary (Grades 1 &amp; 2) \u2013 Building Musical Foundations<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"980\" data-end=\"1171\">Students in Grades 1 and 2 focused on <strong data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1063\">singing, rhythm, and early music literacy<\/strong>. They practiced learning songs by repeating small sections, helping them build memory and vocal confidence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1173\" data-end=\"1414\">In addition, students explored <strong data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1224\">pitch and melody<\/strong> using <strong data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1247\">Boomwhackers<\/strong>, where they worked collaboratively to play simple tunes. This hands-on experience helped them connect visual, physical, and aural aspects of music in an engaging way.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1447\">In class and at home, students:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1448\" data-end=\"1651\">\n<li data-section-id=\"15jgvms\" data-start=\"1448\" data-end=\"1504\">Explored <strong data-start=\"1459\" data-end=\"1504\">steady beat through clapping and movement<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1ym0xa\" data-start=\"1505\" data-end=\"1548\">Began recognising <strong data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1548\">high and low sounds<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"gkpijl\" data-start=\"1549\" data-end=\"1593\">Played simple <strong data-start=\"1565\" data-end=\"1593\">tunes using Boomwhackers<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"y5469o\" data-start=\"1594\" data-end=\"1651\">Experimented with <strong data-start=\"1614\" data-end=\"1651\">note-reading and piano activities<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1801\">These experiences supported students in developing their <strong data-start=\"1710\" data-end=\"1800\">listening skills, coordination, teamwork, and early understanding of musical structure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1803\" data-end=\"1806\" \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"d4mz7p\" data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"1872\">Upper Primary (Grades 3 &amp; 4) \u2013 Expression and Creativity<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1874\" data-end=\"2046\">Grade 3 students focused on <strong data-start=\"1902\" data-end=\"1958\">learning songs and expressing music through movement<\/strong>, combining singing with actions to deepen their engagement and understanding of rhythm.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2048\" data-end=\"2395\">In Grade 4, students continued working on their <strong data-start=\"2096\" data-end=\"2126\">Ramadan animation projects<\/strong>, an exciting interdisciplinary task. Many students added <strong data-start=\"2184\" data-end=\"2224\">sound effects, voiceovers, and music<\/strong>, bringing their stories to life through creative soundscapes. Others explored <strong data-start=\"2303\" data-end=\"2329\">music note recognition<\/strong>, strengthening their understanding of pitch and musical notation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2397\" data-end=\"2492\">This week highlighted how music can connect with storytelling, technology, and cultural themes.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2494\" data-end=\"2497\" \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"154ccfn\" data-start=\"2499\" data-end=\"2561\">Senior Primary (Grades 5 &amp; 6) \u2013 Composing and Creating<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2563\" data-end=\"2634\">Our older students explored the art of <strong data-start=\"2602\" data-end=\"2633\">songwriting and composition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2636\" data-end=\"2923\">\n<li data-section-id=\"vo4p9z\" data-start=\"2636\" data-end=\"2767\"><strong data-start=\"2638\" data-end=\"2649\">Grade 5<\/strong> students created their own songs using <strong data-start=\"2689\" data-end=\"2720\">verse and chorus structures<\/strong>, experimenting with simple chord progressions.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"19u9gam\" data-start=\"2768\" data-end=\"2923\"><strong data-start=\"2770\" data-end=\"2781\">Grade 6<\/strong> students extended this further by composing full songs with <strong data-start=\"2842\" data-end=\"2871\">verse, chorus, and bridge<\/strong>, developing a deeper understanding of musical form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2925\" data-end=\"3135\">Using digital tools, students explored how chords support melody and lyrics. The emphasis was on <strong data-start=\"3022\" data-end=\"3075\">creative expression, structure, and student voice<\/strong>, with many students producing thoughtful and original work.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3137\" data-end=\"3140\" \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1aur5oh\" data-start=\"3142\" data-end=\"3160\">Reflection<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3162\" data-end=\"3376\">This week demonstrated the adaptability and creativity of our students. Whether in the classroom or learning from home, students continued to engage meaningfully with music\u2014singing, moving, creating, and exploring.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3378\" data-end=\"3748\">There was a strong focus on the IB Learner Profile attributes of <strong data-start=\"3443\" data-end=\"3459\">Communicator<\/strong>, as students expressed themselves through singing, movement, and composition, and <strong data-start=\"3542\" data-end=\"3556\">Risk-taker<\/strong>, as they tried new ideas, performed, and experimented with unfamiliar musical concepts. Younger students also demonstrated <strong data-start=\"3680\" data-end=\"3692\">Inquirer<\/strong> as they explored sounds and instruments with curiosity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3750\" data-end=\"4094\">In terms of Approaches to Learning (ATL), students developed <strong data-start=\"3811\" data-end=\"3835\">Communication skills<\/strong> through singing and sharing ideas, <strong data-start=\"3871\" data-end=\"3897\">Self-management skills<\/strong> by practising, repeating, and staying engaged in both online and in-class settings, and <strong data-start=\"3986\" data-end=\"4005\">Thinking skills<\/strong> as they created rhythms, composed songs, and made connections between sound and meaning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4096\" data-end=\"4251\">Music continues to be a powerful space for <strong data-start=\"4139\" data-end=\"4177\">expression, connection, and growth<\/strong>, and we are proud of the enthusiasm and effort shown by all our learners.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"4253\" data-end=\"4256\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"4258\" data-end=\"4319\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\ud83c\udfb5 <em data-start=\"4261\" data-end=\"4319\" data-is-last-node=\"\">We look forward to another week of music-making at ABIS!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week in the Music Department at Al Batinah International School, our classrooms were filled with creativity, resilience, and joyful music-making\u2014even as we adapted to unexpected online learning due to heavy rains across Oman.
