I am sure students and parents are getting back into their regular daily routines just as much as we are at school.

Dioramas were due Thursday, April 2nd. I have received 11 out of 19 completed dioramas. It is very important that the students turn these in by Sunday for credit. Students will present their dioramas to the classroom. I will be sending private messages to the parents whose students have not turned in their diorama. If you have already contacted me, thank you for communicating with me.

This week during our Unit of Inquiry we took a look at the vocabulary and definitions of words that are related to the food chain. Students looked at producer, consumer, decomposer, herbivore, carnivore, and omnivore. They worked with a chosen partner and completed a Venn Diagram as well as answer questions based on the new vocabulary they learned. Next week we will take a deeper look at food chains by completing some and creating our own. We will also be completing our research on our chosen animal and begin our writing task.

In English this week we have started looking at types of sentences. Students will understand that a sentence can be a statement, questions, exclamation or a command. They will learn the difference between a complete sentence and a sentence fragment. We will continue to review nouns, verbs, adjectives and pronouns until the end of the school year. Students were introduced to the vowel teams au and aw. They will continue to review all learned sounds from this school year. We took a closer look at compound words and syllables as well. Students wrote a recount about their holiday break. We will continue practicing this skill.

Fractions were the math topic of the week. Students completed the pre-assessment, so I can gauge their prior knowledge. Students will learn about whole, half, quarter, equal groups, and adding and subtracting fractions with common denominators two and four. Please discuss these topics with your child. Try to make real world connections in the home about how we use fractions in our daily lives.

Please support your child in their reading journey. Students are expected to read twenty minutes every day. On Thursdays they should be turning in their Reading Journals. Sunday we will begin our normal library schedule. Students receive two library books and two paperback books each week. Please use these books for their Reading Journals. If students finish these books before the allotted time, they may use online sources such as Raz-Kids and EPIC.

IMPORTANT DATES!!!

April 7th = Parents-Coffee Morning

April 5th = After School Activities Begin

April 9th = Term 3 Reports

April 15th = Student Led Conferences

April 16th = Primary Assembly Gr 2-3

Weekly Photos Here Welcome back to the normal school day schedule.
